People increasingly use ChatGPT and other AI assistants to find charities, research social issues, locate services and compare organizations.

A potential donor might ask, “Which nonprofits provide housing assistance in Houston?” A parent might search for disability-service organizations. A company might request recommendations for local volunteer partnerships.

For a nonprofit to appear in these answers, its website must clearly explain what the organization does and make that information accessible to AI search systems.

State Exactly What the Organization Does

Many nonprofit websites rely on broad mission language.

Statements such as “We create stronger communities” or “We empower people to build better futures” may sound inspiring, but they do not provide enough factual information.

Every nonprofit homepage should clearly identify:

  • Geographic service area
  • Eligibility requirements

AI systems need reasons to view an organization as authoritative.

Nonprofits should publish substantive resources such as:

Claims should include dates and supporting context.
